Itamaraty confirms the death of Brazilian in running over in Vancouver

Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not disclose the victim’s identity; Incident left at least 11 dead this Sunday (27.abr)

Itamaraty confirmed on Sunday (27.br.2025) the death of a Brazilian during a festival in Vancouver, west of Canada. The Brazilian government was informed about the victim by local authorities.

“The Brazilian government expresses its profound condolences to the victims’ families and wants the rapid and full recovery of all wounded. It extends its solidarity to the people and the Canadian government.”says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Local police do not work with the hypothesis of a terrorist attack. According to the authorities, the driver, a 30 -year -old man, has a history of occurrences linked to “Mental health problems”. He was arrested on the spot.

At least 11 people died and dozens were injured. The identity of the Brazilian victim has not yet been revealed.

The run over took place during Lapu-Lapu Day celebrations. The cultural event, traditional in the crop of the Philippines, honors the indigenous chief who led the victory over colonizers led by Fernão de Magalhães, Portugal.
