Partnership between UNIR and UFAC Combat Dismissal against Indigenous Health

“Fighting the misinformation about the health of traditional peoples” is the title of the project that seeks to dialogue with indigenous northern region to combat the misinformation that relates to their health. Funded with almost R $ 400 thousand by CNPq in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the proposal is coordinated by Dr. Allysson Martins, professor of the Master in Communication at UNIR, in partnership with UFAC, through Professor Dr. Aquinei Queirós.

The project started its activities in 2025 and seeks not only to conduct research, but to work with extension and innovation. The intention is to listen to the original peoples to understand what afflicts them most about misinformation about their health. After this step, content productions with true information and adapted to the realities of the indigenous people begin in constant articulation with them.

The intention is to produce images and videos for digital social networks; printed graphic material; release for local media; In addition to face -to -face meetings/Photo: Reproduction

The contents will be posted primarily on the medi Instagram account (@lab.midi). The Digital Media and Internet Laboratory has over 13,000 followers and is a regional reference for scientific dissemination on social networks in the last 5 years. Innovation is not only in the materials to be spread organically, but to ensure that they are accurate and culturally appropriate and appropriate to the realities of indigenous peoples. Results and products have four target audiences: indigenous people, public managers, health professionals and the general public.

“As the research comes from a CNPq partnership with the Ministry of Health, the intention is for these materials to arrive and be used by public health managers and agents, in addition to organized indigenous groups and others interested in the subject,” explains Martins.

This makes the proposal present a multifaceted approach. The intention is to produce images and videos for digital social networks; printed graphic material; release for local media; In addition to face -to -face meetings, when the results and products will be presented to indigenous people, public managers and health professionals. The proposal also aims to qualify and set scientific human resources from various levels in the northern region. In addition to the coordinators, they are part of the Research and Professionals Scholarship Project, as well as medium volunteers.

The theme of misinformation is addressed by the project coordinator, Allysson Martins, since 2020. Author of the book “It was not just a flu, but misinformation!”, To be released in 2025 by the Insular Publishing, he explains that it is not only the lies that make up the disinformation, but skewed and cut information and also the very relegated to indigenous peoples over the years. This allows the group to produce indigenous health content beyond what is directly targeted by fake news.
