Porto Alegre, RS – 25.04.2025 – Governor Eduardo Leite participated in the signing act of the beginning order for the execution of the Urbanization Executive Project of Morro Santa Tereza, in Porto Alegre. The event also marked the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the State and the City Hall. The architectural project, developed by the sauermartins architects, provides for urban interventions that will transform the territory focused on quality of life, safety and community integration, within the scope of the RS Seguro Community Program.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, of the PSDB, expressed his intention to apply for the presidency in 2026, seeking to unite forces around his political project. In an interview with the free canal program, he expressed the conviction that Brazil is ready to elect a community representative to the country’s maximum position. Leite emphasized that his candidacy will depend on the alignment of interests within a group, noting that he cannot place his personal ambitions above a project that benefits the nation. He pledged to lead an initiative that faces current political polarization.

“I can say that I really want to help my country face polarization, and yes, I am willing to lead a project – that is, being, yes, a candidate. But a presidential candidacy is not an individual will or made by personal aspiration,” said Leite. In addressing the possibility of being the candidate of the LGBT+community, the governor stated that he sees no barriers, citing his reelection in a state with a conservative base as an example of acceptance. This experience, according to him, shows that it is feasible to advance with an inclusive candidacy.

Regarding the controversy over amnesty those involved in the acts of January 8, 2023, Leite positioned himself against the proposal, although he criticized the penalties imposed by the Federal Supreme Court. He considered that some sentences, such as Debora Rodrigues, a hairdresser sentenced to 14 years in prison, are disproportionate. The toucan argued that the penalty suggested by a Luiz Fux of the STF ministers would be fairer (a year and a half of detention).
