Chinese investment in the construction of atomic infrastructures reached a record value of US $ 20.2 billion in 2024
China estimates the ability to build 40 new nuclear plants simultaneously by 2025. The conclusion is from the “China 2025 nuclear energy development” report presented by CNEA (China’s Nuclear Power Association). The information was released by the Chinese state -owned company.
In 2024, the Asian country hit its investment record in the construction of new nuclear units with US $ 20.2 billion, $ 7.2 billion over the amount of the previous year.
According to CNEA, China has 102 nuclear power plant projects in operation, construction or approval for construction. These installations together have over 113 million kilowatts capacity.
Chinese nuclear park is distributed as follows:
- In operation – 58 plants (60.2 million kilowatts of capacity);
- under construction – 28 plants (33.7 million kilowatts of capacity);
- Approved for construction – 16 plants (19.1 million kilowatts of capacity).
The installed capacity of units under construction in China remains the largest in the world for 18 consecutive years.
The new plants in China use a nuclear reactor called Huatong One. It is produced in partnership by CGN (China’s General Nuclear Energy Group) and CNNC (China National Nuclear Corporation).
Entry into mass production of these reactors has contributed to the expansion of the Chinese nuclear matrix in recent years, according to CNEA.
IA E DATA CENTERS
Chinese nuclear energy investment is aligned with the country’s planning to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence and the installation of data centers throughout the national territory.
The nuclear source is ideal for supplying the data centers as it is capable of continuously producing energy – different solar and wind that are intermittent – while not emits greenhouse gases.
At a PCP (Communist Party of China) meeting held on Friday (25.abr), Chinese President Xi Jinping (CCCH) said the country should mobilize resources for.
In the Chinese leader’s view, technology is strategic and will be responsible for leading a new industrial revolution in the near future.
