Microscopy in the age of quantum physics

There are things that we cannot see with the eye: bacteria, viruses, atoms. Bacteria were first seen 350 years ago in a microscope by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek – a “small” discovery that revolutionized biology and medicine. Today, thanks to quantum physics, we can see individual atoms. Microscopy now faces the challenge of mapping molecular dynamics in biological samples.
