The São Paulo Regional Electoral Court (TRE-SP) ordered, on Monday (28), the immediate removal of the mayor of Barueri, Beto Piteri (Republicans), and his deputy, Claudia Marques (PSB). .
In addition to the cassation, the TRE also declared the ineligibility of Piteri and former mayor Rubens Furlan (PSB) for eight years.
In his order, Judge Régis de Castilho pointed out that the declaration embargoes presented by the defense have no suspensive effect and, therefore, do not prevent the immediate execution of the decision.
In a statement, the municipal management stated that the decision will be appealed, both in TRE-SP itself and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and argued that “popular will expressed through the votes will be confirmed by the court.”
Abuse of power and illegal drive
The trial, which began at the end of 2024, was based on the former mayor and then Piteri’s opponent, Gil Arantes (União Brasil). He accused Piteri, who was deputy mayor at the time, and Rubens Furlan of abuse of economic power and misuse of the media.
According to the complaint, Rubens Furlan would have done the paid boost of almost 100 Instagram posts, a practice forbidden to those who were not a candidate, since Piteri was fulfilling the second consecutive term as deputy mayor.
Continues after advertising
The publications would have counted on the consent and participation of Beto Piteri and Claudia Marques, who appeared as “co -authors” of posts on social networks.
The rapporteur of the case in the TRE, Judge Régis de Castilho, considered that there was “undisguised media abuse” with impact on the isonomy of the electoral dispute.
