US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he thinks his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin wishes peace in Ukraine. Trump also indicated in an interview with ABC News that Putin wants to control the entire territory of Ukraine, but “he won’t do it for me,” the White House chief added. Trump answered the question of whether Putin wishes peace, “I think so.” In an interview, however, according to ABC he admitted that Putin is “playing” with him. The White House chief also reiterated that Russia attacked Ukraine because he was in the office of his predecessor – Joe Biden at that time.
“I think that if I didn’t win the elections, he would get the whole Ukraine,” Trump continued. “And for me, I really believe he’s willing to stop fighting,” added.
The US President is trying to force Moscow and Kiev to conclude an agreement. Recently, however, it has been increasingly impatient with both sides. After Saturday’s meeting with the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the Vatican, he said that Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin may “not want to stop the war” and it will be with him through sanctions.
“There was no reason for Putin to burn civilian areas, cities and municipalities in recent days,” Trump wrote on Saturday on his social network Truth Social. “It is starting to lead me to the idea that he may not want to end the war, just playing with me,” added.
The Kremlin chief designed a three -day ceasefire on Monday. According to Putin, Russian troops from midnight 8 May until midnight May 11 will stop all military actions. This will happen in honor of the 80th anniversary of the World War II.
US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that It is time for Moscow and Kiev to submit concrete proposals to end the war in Ukraine. He warned that if there is no progress, the United States would not continue their efforts to convey an agreement.
