Donald Trump surprised to say, in a joke, that he would like to be a Pope. The statement was made at the White House, where the president of the United States shared that “being a Pope would be my choice number one,” although he did not appoint any clear preference to Francis’ successor.
Asked about the next conclave, Trump said he did not have a favorite, but highlighted Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, as “very good.”
Cardinal Dolan will be one of the ten American representatives in the conclave that begins on May 7, bringing together cardinals from around the world to elect the new leader of the Catholic Church after Pope Francis’ death on April 21.
Timothy Dolan has already participated in the 2013 Conclave, which resulted in the election of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who adopted the name of Francisco.
