Eight Greenpeace activists were arrested on Tuesday (29) by the Military Police for participating in a protest at JBS headquarters in São Paulo.
According to information from the São Paulo Public Security Bureau (SSP), they were arrested by invasion. As there were Argentines among the detainees, the case was eventually taken to the Federal Police, where the occurrence is being registered.
“During the action, the suspects accessed the company by jumping a wall and were arrested by the corporation. They were sent to the Federal Police, where the occurrence is being registered. The facts were closed at 15h,” said the statement.
Agência Brasil sought information from the Federal Police, but had no return. The report also tried to contact the company, but to no avail.
By note, Greenpeace reported that the protesters interrupted the Annual Assembly at the headquarters of the Multinational Complex in Sao Paulo on Tuesday. During the event, they would have risen from the middle of the audience to display tracks with the words respect the Amazon, stop playing JBS and its profit, our extinction. A giant track was also extended, 1,200 square meters with the message JBS Profits, Forests Burn (JBS profits, the forests burn, in literal translation), which was installed on the roof of a shed inside the complex.
“In front of the building where the General Assembly took place, two activists fantasized by billionaires, alluding to JBS majority partners, Joesley and Wesley Batista. Other activists displayed more protest posters and were removed from the site with truculence by company security guards, who removed photo and video equipment, required the images to be erased and pushed them out of the complex. The Military Police were called, ”said Greenpeace, in a statement.

The purpose of this act, says the organization, was to draw attention to the role of the company in the destruction of forests, especially the Amazon. During the action, Greenpeace Brasil also reported publishing an online, called JBS: Cooking the Planetwhich brings together various news about cases of illegal deforestation and that would be occurring in the JBS production chain.
