This Thursday, May 1, the, commonly known as the May Day. This is a holiday throughout Spain (and in many other countries), in which the majority unions UGT and CC OO will lead a more different demonstrations by different cities to commemorate this date. The motto chosen for this edition is that of Protect the conquered, win futureand that,, Pepe Álvarez and Unai Sordo, has a clear global vocation, in allusion to the rise of the extreme right throughout the world and the risk that this will be receded in rights for the workers.
Where will the main demonstration be?
As every year, the demonstration that will be headed by the main union figures will take place in Madrid. According to the information provided by the Madrid delegations of UGT and CC OO, the concentration will begin at the 12 noonand will lengthen until 14 in the afternoon. The starting point of the march will be located again in the street Gran Vía (corner of Alcalá Calle)and from there it will be deployed to the Plaza de España (something more than a kilometer and a half of travel). The unions have announced that there will be another 50 demonstrations in other cities in the country.
Who will go to the march?
As convocators, they will be in the head of the demonstration both Pepe Álvarez (UGT) as Unoi deaf (CC OO), in addition to the Madrid leaders of both centrals, Paloma Lópezcurrent general secretary of CC OO of Madrid, and Susana HuertasGeneral Secretary of UGT Madrid. The four will be the ones who, once the way from the march is over, get on a stage located in Plaza España and make two speeches with which the celebration will end.
Presumably, attending to previous calls, the assistance of different government members, and of different political parties is also expected. Who has confirmed his presence is the Minister of Labor and Second Vice President, Yolanda Díazto which the Secretary of State for Labor, Joaquín Pérez Rey will also accompany.

How many people usually go?
The influx to May 1 is always marked by the day of the week in which it falls. Thus, last year, the influx, according to the calculations made by the Government delegation in the capital, was from some 10.000 personas. , coinciding on Monday – in Madrid it is also a festive on May 2, which extends the bridge -, despite the fact that the estimates made were the same, the feeling shared by those who attended was a much smaller figure.
Is it necessary to be affiliated with a union to be able to attend?
No. Although it is the unions who organize the act, any person who wishes can go. In the week prior to their celebration, different members of UGT and CC OO distributed octavillas to try to attract the largest number of participants.
What does the manifesto signed by UGT and CC OO say?
Beyond the motto is Protect the conquered, win futurethe two majority unions in which they detail a series of claims, among which its main battle horse stands both in the previous legislature and the current one: the Reduction of the working day by law. “We demand the political commitment to legislatively approve the agreement between government and unions that sets the maximum legal day in 37.5 hours per week,” says the text.
