The Israeli army attacked an “extremist group” in Syria on Wednesday – according to the government in Jerusalem – to protect the Drusian ethnic group. The office of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as a “warning campaign” and explained that the “extremist group” had planned an attack on Drusen in Saidnaya. A clear message was sent to the “Syrian regime”: Israel expected “that it takes action to avert damage from the Drusian community”.
