The Minister of Social Security, Carlos Lupi, told reporters, on Tuesday (29) that is “totally” ruled out the possibility of his removal from the ministry. The statements occurred after testimony in the House of Representatives’ Social Security Commission.
At the time, Lupi had answered parliamentarians’ questions about the fraud at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). When asked if there was any conversation about his removal from the ministry, Lupi answered “none.” He added, “Who has to decide on this is President Lula. I know I have his confidence and I’m working to elucidate everything that has been wrong,” he said.
Lupi again said that there was no delay in measures when he became aware of the allegations of fraud in the INSS. “This is a gang formation: groups that have set up to create institutions and to steal retired money. This is shocking to me,” he said.
The minister continued: “I was surprised by the volume of this. Because I knew I had a complaint here, another there, we always knew, we received complaints, on the INSS platform itself some people complained complaining. Now, in this quantity, by an organization, I became knowledge now.”
Lupi also argued that the basis for investigations by the Federal Police and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) came from findings he determined in the INSS. Asked if there was a delay in measures, he denied.
