Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago and billionaire Bloomberg seized agreement in New York to boost green economic growth
Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, assigned president of, and Michael R. Bloomberg, a special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Ambition and Climate Solutions, announced a partnership between the conference presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
The agreement, signed in New York on Tuesday (29.abr.2025), aims to support economic development based on clean energy and climate adaptation strategies.
The initiative aims to use COP30, which will be held in Belém, as a starting point for actions that favor low -carbon economic transitions. The partnership takes place in the context of the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and the review of global climate commitments for the next decade.
The goal is to mobilize up to $ 1.3 trillion per year by 2035 to support developing countries in response to climate change. The partnership also supports goals such as triple renewable energy capacity and containing deforestation by 2030.
The presidency of COP30 and Bloomberg Philanthropies will act in the structuring of NDCs (nationally determined contributions) involving local authorities and receive financial support for implementation.
Collaboration is aligned with 3 priorities of the presidency of COP: reinforcement of multilateralism, articulation between negotiation and practice and structural advances in the application of the Paris Agreement.
During the announcement, Corrêa do Lago defended the preparation for ongoing environmental and economic changes and highlighted the need for institutional coordination. Bloomberg said cooperation with local authorities can accelerate actions, expand clean energy and support urban economies.
Mayors like Sadiq Khan (London), Eduardo Paes (Rio de Janeiro) and Anne Hidalgo (Paris) participated in the launch and highlighted the role of cities in climate policies and the implementation of COP30 decisions.
