Russia says that these NATO countries are "targets" and Ukraine warns "for a new offensive from Belarus": "This is how they start a new attack"

“Incendiary” statements of the former Russian president again shake the European security board. While Dmitry Medvedev threatens with nuclear attacks – against NATO countries, Ukrainian President warns of dangerous summer movements. Experts warn: “We have to prepare for a possible conflict with Russia”

Dmitry Medvedev has turned on the alarms in Europe again. Former Russian President and current vice president of the Russian Security Council has just launched another direct threat: Finland and Sweden became “targets” from the Russian Armed Forces, including the possibility of nuclear attacks, after adherence to NATO, without forgetting Poland and the Balticas-Lithonia, Latvia and Estonia

“Now they are in a hostile block in relation to us. This means that they have automatically became target for our Armed Forces, including possible retaliation attacks, possibly even nuclear,” Medvedev said, in a tone that many analysts consider provoking, to intimidate the West.

In parallel, Volodymyr Zelensky leaves a warning: Russia may be preparing a new offensive from Belarus under the pretext of military exercises. “This is usually how they start a new attack,” warned the Ukrainian President. “But where will he stop? Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland? God bless us, no! But we all have to be prepared.”

Moscow movements in this flank back in the countries of NATO and the European Union, especially at a time when the United States of America seem to be reducing their direct involvement on the European continent.

For the commentator of CNN Portugal Francisco Pereira Coutinho, these statements are more than simple provocations. “Medvedev is an incendiary,” he considers, remembering that, although without executive power, he has served as a messenger of repeated threats, “often completely irresponsible, as now with the use of nuclear weapons.”

“The goal of course: coerce the West to stop supporting Ukraine,” explains the expert. And he underlines: “We have to prepare for a possible conflict with the Russian Federation. This type of rhetoric is particularly aggressive. Especially in a context where the US is moving away from Europe, it is another sign that we have to take the threat seriously.”

The recent adhesion of Finland and Sweden to Nato was the clear response of both countries to Russian aggression in Ukraine. However, for Kremlin, this step only “confirmed” its narrative of siege and hostility.
