During a session on Tuesday (29), the councilwoman (new), generated controversy by saying that “white woman, beautiful and rich bothers.” The statement occurred amid the voting of the bill that readjusts the salary of municipal servants, approved with 34 votes favorable and 17 against. The project, proposed by the management of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), foresees a salary increase in two stages: 2.60% in May this year and 2.55% in May next year, totaling 5.15%. However, the readjustment was below the claimed by the category, which is on strike requiring an increase above 5.65%inflation, according to the IPCA.

The session was marked by protests from PT and PSOL councilors, who opposed the executive project. During the discussion, councilwoman Cris Monteiro complained of interruptions while speaking in the podium, addressing PSOL councilor Luana Alves, asking her to be silent. Monteiro claimed that he could not speak for being “white, beautiful and rich”, which generated reactions of protesters who accused her of racism. The session was interrupted for 20 minutes, and later Monteiro apologized, stating that he had no intention of offending anyone.

Councilwoman Luana Alves protested against Monteiro’s speech and led the case to the Corregedoria, accusing her of offensive conduct to parliamentary decorum. Another incident occurred when Councilman Toninho Vespoli (PSOL) raised a poster in support of the protesters, being confronted by Rubinho Nunes (Union), who tried to remove the poster, resulting in a physical confrontation.
