The Brazilian broadcaster Globo was ordered to compensate goalkeeper Alexandre Cajuru in 30 thousand reais (about 4 thousand euros), after repeatedly displaying a serious mistake of the player, often called in football as “chicken”. The incident dates back to 2020, when Cajuru, then at the service of CSA, failed to hold a seemingly harmless shot from Ponte Preta, eventually conceding a caricature goal.
According to the prosecution, Globo compiled this embarrassing moment in a video that highlighted goalkeeper flaws and displayed it more than 4,800 times before, during and after transmissions from series A and B of the Brasileirão. The court considered that the exaggerated repetition of the bid has exceeded the reasonable limits, with obvious negative impacts on the player.
Cajuru’s lawyer accused Globo of contributing to destroying the career of a young man full of ambitions: “What the station is doing with human beings extrapolate common sense.” Cajuru revealed that he was deeply shaken by the repercussions of the episode and has not played for CSA since then. It is currently without a club.
🇧🇷 Chicken!
Alexandre Cajuru, unfortunately, has just failed in João Paulo’s goal for Ponte Preta over CSA, his team since 2017.
