The Israeli police closed the main highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Wednesday and ordered the evacuation of the population. TASR informs according to AFP report.
The inhabitants of the villages located approximately 30 kilometers west of Jerusalem evacuated, wrote the Israeli media and broadcast shots of firefighting teams fighting flames.
Evacuation of the population
High temperatures and strong winds allowed the rapid spread of fires in wooded areas, which required evacuation of more than five municipalities. Extinguishing continues to complicate the wind.
According to The Times of Israel (Toi), at least 63 teams, 11 aircraft and two helicopters are struggling with the Times of Israel. The fire is also threatened by the town of Bejt Šameš with about 170,000 inhabitants.
The authorities immediately reported no victims. Minister of National Security ITamar Ben GVIR announced that it is heading to the affected region, where forest fires often occur this time of year. Fires broke out in the same area the previous week.
