The extensive power outage that hit Monday (April 28) Spain caused economic damage totaling approximately EUR 1.6 billionannounced on Wednesday’s interest association of Spanish entrepreneurs CEOE. El País reported that some analysts even expect losses of 2.25 to 4.5 billion euros. According to the newspaper, however, other experts assume that the damage will be lower, as part of the production losses could still be cope with. TASR informs this based on the DPA report.
The power outage has largely paralyzed the country for more than ten hours. Many industrial enterprises had to interrupt production. The food industry and retail also complained about serious losses, for example, as a result of interruption of cooling systems. Many supermarkets therefore had to dispose of the entire range of chilled and frozen goods. The causes of the greatest power outage in the country’s history are still unknown.
