Ukraine is ready to sign a mineral resources agreement with the United States and could do so on Wednesday, a source of the Ukrainian government told Reuters.
First deputy deputy Yulia Svyrydenko is traveling to the US to sign the deal, the source said, who declined to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter.
“I think maybe at the end of the night, Kiev time, the deal can be signed,” the source said.
Ukrainian authorities expect the signing of US President Donald Trump’s agreement to help enter the US support to Kiev in the wide-scale invasion of Russia for over three years.
Both sides signed a memorandum, published on April 18, as an initial step in closing an agreement on the development of mineral resources in Ukraine. In the memorandum, they said they intended to complete negotiations until April 26 and sign the deal as soon as possible.
Trump and the authorities of his government threatened to abandon efforts to mediate a peace agreement this month unless there are clear signs of progress soon.

Ukraine has been relying on US military aid, which goes from air defense to long -range missiles to repel Russia’s attack for more than three years.
In February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said US help represented about 30% of the weapons and equipment used to defend the country.
On April 28, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said Kiev had agreed that previous American aid provided to Kiev would not be accounted for as part of a mineral agreement.

During a US trip last week, Shmyhal met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and reported a “good progress” in the agreement.
