Mexico has received about 39,000 immigrants deported since the government of US President Donald Trump took over, of which 33,000 are Mexicans, Mexico’s president Claudia Seinbaum said today.
Speaking at the established morning press conference, Seinbaum said that although Mexico decided to accept non -Mexicans deported by the United States for “humanitarian reasons”, only a few thousand were sent to Mexico since Trump took over.
“Fewer and fewer people arrive from other countries because the United States government has agreements with almost all countries,” Seinbaum said.
Mexico has received fewer people deported from the US since Trump took over his duties compared to the same period last year when Joe Biden was president.
Mexico received about 52,000 immigrants deported by the US in the months of February, March and April 2024, according to Mexico’s data.
This reduction, despite Trump’s promises of a mass expulsion campaign, is due to the fewer immigrants crossing the US border.
Ever since Trump began repression at his border, immigrants across Latin America have been leaving their hopes of entering the US and returning to their countries of origin.
