Russian forces have increased the intensity of fighting in eastern Ukraine despite the planned ceasefire, focusing on the strategic city of Pokrovsk.

The head of the Ukrainian armed forces Olexandr Syrskyj on Wednesday said that Russian forces significantly increased the intensity of combat activity in eastern Ukraine despite the upcoming ceasefire. According to Reuters, TASR informs about this.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three -day ceasefire from 8 to 10 on Monday on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greenyr called for an immediate cease of at least 30 days.

Intense struggles continue

“Despite loud statements about the readiness to stop fire during the May holidays, the occupiers have significantly increased the intensity of combat actions, while focusing their main efforts towards Pokrovsk,” Syrskyj said on the telegram.

Russian forces have begun a widespread invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. For several months, they have been trying to surround the East Korean town of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, which is an important logistics center.

According to Reuters, obtaining a poker for Russia is an important step towards the gradual conquest of the whole Donetsk region, which Moscow annexed in 2022 after a manipulated referendum, although a large part of the area is still controlled by Ukraine.
