A mass accident in the Philippines has claimed at least ten dead, including four children, and more than 30 injured.
At least ten dead and more than 30 injured were required by a mass accident of several vehicles on the Filipino highway, the Filipino Red Cross announced on Thursday on Thursday. There are also four children among the victims. The accident apparently caused a bus driver who said he had overslept behind the wheel, Reuters wrote, referring to local media, TASR writes.
The collision occurred shortly after the noon of the local time on the toll on the Subic-Clark-Tarlac road, north of the capital Manila. Five vehicles were involved, including a truck and a bus, said the Red Cross.
The driver fell asleep behind the wheel
The authorities claim that the bus has encountered a van that was already standing in line to pay the toll, which caused a chain reaction and impacts with other vehicles.
The bus driver belonging to Solid North Bus claimed that he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing a mass accident, said the Philippine agency GMA News, which referred to the information provided by the Chief of the Tarlac police office.
Suspension of the company’s operation
Minister of Transport Vince Dizon, in response to the incident, ordered the suspension of operation of Solid North Bus, his office said on Facebook.
The Red Cross also said on the network that the accident quickly sent a team to help rescue and medical work, adding that the operation was continuing.
