São Paulo (Reuters)-The Federal Government was able to grant the private initiative the entire road corridor between Rio de Janeiro and Goiás that passes through Minas Gerais, through auction on Wednesday of the BR-040 lot between the state capital and the mining city of Juiz de Fora.

The auction of what is considered by the government as the first paved road in Brazil – originating in the 19th century, when it was inaugurated by Emperor Dom Pedro 2º – was won by a consortium of companies that includes the Brazilian Construcap construction company and two Spanish companies: anonymous society of works y Servicios (Copasa) and Ohla Concessions.

The group won the auction with a disagreement offer on the toll rate defined in the announcement of 14%, according to information from B3. The consortium defeated 1%disagreement bids, offered by Spanish Sacyr, and about 3%, proposed by the EPR group.

The road corridor between Rio de Janeiro and Goiás was remodeled by the Federal Government and had already had two of its three sections granted to private initiative last year, with the first, between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, auctioned by the EPR Group and the second, between Cristalina (GO) and Belo Horizonte, being bid by the French Vinci Highways, the first federal highway concession in Brazil.

The winner of this Wednesday’s event was close to that offered by the victorious groups in the events of the two previous stretches of the highway: 14.3%, in the case of the road that arrives in Goiás; and 11.2%, in the case of the course between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora.

Currently, the stretch auctioned on Wednesday is under the management of the Concier concessionaire, which won the contract in 1995 and states that it has invested $ 7 billion since the beginning of the concession.

The new consortium that won the auction takes over investments of R $ 8.84 billion over 30 years of concession, of which R $ 3.8 billion refer to operational spending, including a new rise in Serra de Petrópolis (RJ), the Ministry of Transport said.
