Police released only the hijacker’s first name: Adriano, 36; he is former employee of the company Express Transportes Urbano and the motivation would have been the resignation
The man who kidnapped one and took the driver hostage for more than two hours on José Pinheiro Borges Avenue, in East Zone of São Paulo, was former employee of the collective company. Police released only the hijacker’s first name: Adriano, 36. The victim was released without injury. The case happened early Wednesday night (30).
According to Renato Marques Pavão, an interim commander of the Special Tactical Action Group (Gate) and responsible for the negotiation, the kidnapper would have been out of work for leaving employment, suffering from financial problems – he would be owed to a loan shark – and face the end of a loving relationship.
“He is a former employee of this company and the motivation he presented is precisely the fact that he had left this job. He left his job around a month ago, asked to be turned off, (but) had a separation and seems to have a financial problem. He had no criminal record. These were the reasons he presented to us,” the commander said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Adriano was inside the bus as a passenger, when he surrendered the driver using a knife of about 40 centimeters around 5:40 pm. The collective operated on line 407L-10 (Barro Branco-Guilhermina Esperança) and belongs to the company Express Transportes Urbanos, where Adriano worked.
“At one point of the trip he (the hijacker) presented the knife, put very close to the driver and asked him to divert the way. The passengers were very nervous, began a riot, he directed the driver to this street, asked him to cross the bus, the passengers landed and he kept hostage inside,” said Peacock.
It was not discarded, until the latest information disclosed, the possibility that it was under the influence of medicines or drugs. According to the police, the hijacker’s line of reasoning was confusing, so there was difficulty understanding and possibly fulfill the kidnapper’s requests during the negotiation.
“It was a little disconnected what he said, but he asked that what he was looking for was advertising. During the negotiation he asked for the lawyer’s presence and we also brought a person who worked with him, an inspector, so that he would be a little calmer,” he said.
According to the police, the kidnapper did not know the hostage, although they had worked in the same company. “He did not know the victim, it was random. He knew by the color of the bus that was the line he worked, so he boarded this bus,” he said. “The victim was very nervous, he’s a gentleman, he had a knife very close to him.”
The road was fully blocked in the center direction and gate agents specialized in negotiation convinced the man to surrender after about two and a half hours. Shooters were even positioned to shoot the man if necessary, which did not occur. At about 8 pm, Adriano was taken to a police station and arrested.
