From Paris to Seoul, workers around the world ask for more jobs and better salaries

There are 2h and 16min

International Labor Day was marked by the protests of workers of a more globalized economy, but no longer fair to those who support the weight of work. From Paris, in France, Seoul, South Korea, protesters and the main national unions required governments to do more to end the precarious situation with which Europeans, South Americans and Asians live.

In Paris and Lyon, some protesters involved in clashes with the police and there were several arrests. Protesters were also arrested in Istanbul in a country where the protests find an increasingly aggressive policy of repression. Istanbul’s Turks went to Taksim Square to remember the protesters killed by security forces on May 1977. In Greece and Serbia, thousands of people filled the streets of Athens and Belgrade, to ask the executives to increase minimum and medium salaries, but also for those responsible for corruption schemes to be punished. In Cuba, officialism descended to the streets of Havana with messages against the interference of the United States in Cuban politics, but also with some criticism, albeit though, to certain decisions of the communist government. Also in the Americas, Argentines took advantage of May one day to protest in force against President Javier Milei, responsible for harsh austerity policies, which have included cuts in public services and jobs. Although the third largest economy in Latin America has shown signs of recovery, the main national unions say they have been the poorest to pay the bill.
