This year there are more beaches with blue flag in Portugal. In total, there are more than 400 where water quality and access are guaranteed.
They are a quality seal. More than 400 beaches in Portugal will raise the blue flag. There are 13 more than last year. This award distinguishes the beaches with better water quality, safety, accessibility and respect for the environment.
The distinction was attributed to 404 beaches, 18 marinas and 22 ecoturistic vessels by the international jury. According to the president of all Portuguese coastal municipalities have blue flag beaches.
Sintra’s beaches, which did not compete for the program 10 years ago, were also distinguished this year. In the Azores there are 46 the distinguished beaches, being the Lagators Calheta, the latest award -winning. In Madeira, there are 18 with blue flag, more than last year.
Portugal thus occupies the sixth position among the 51 countries that encompass the Blue Flag program.
