A new documentary by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese will present a conversation with the late Pope Francis about the pontiff-supported effort to offer education through the cinema, the film’s producers said on Wednesday.

Called “Aldeas – The New Story”, the documentary is “rooted in the Pope’s belief in the sacred nature of creativity,” said a statement from the filmmakers.

According to them, the unprecedented conversation with Scorsese was the “in -depth interview of the Pope for the cinema.”

Francisco died this month at the age of 88 and was buried on Saturday.

The documentary will show the work of Scholas Occurrent, an educational movement founded by Pope Francis, and Aldeas, a project that supports the production of short films to promote cultural understanding.

Before he died, Francisco called the documentary “an extremely poetic and very constructive project because he goes to the roots of human life, human sociability, human conflicts… the essence of the journey of a life,” said the filmmakers.
