Before the betting itself, most often in the autumn, but in some varieties in early spring, it is recommended to enrich the soil with a high -quality, well -deceived compost or ripe cow manure. This will help to retain moisture, improve the soil structure and at the same time give it nutrients that garlic will need to develop roots and healthy growth. If you do not have your own compost, a granulated organic fertilizer with slow release of nutrients is sufficient. Whatever variant, the basis of a successful harvest lies at this stage.
In the spring, as soon as garlic wakes up to growth, there is a moment to fertilize nitrogen fertilizers. Nitrogen will support the growth of the top and the overall vitality of the plant, which is important for the later development of strong onions. For example, you can use chicken manure in pellets, fish emulsion or seaweed. The fertilizer can either be scattered around the plants or incorporated into the furrow next to the line. And don’t forget to water! Water will help nutrients to get to the roots. In about a month and a half, just before the onions start to gain volume, the next phase comes.
Late in the spring, nitrogen is already receding into the background and garlic needs other support. And this is especially potassium, which helps the formation of solid and tasty onions. It is advisable to fertilize, for example, fertilizer for tomatoes, nettle leach or natural mixtures containing potassium, such as dried chamber or wood ash in smaller quantities. To be precise, reach for potassium sulfate, which is recommended to apply every six weeks. And the last tip? About three weeks before the harvest, stop driving and fertilize the garlic. This helps him to mature and prolong its durability while storage.
