The distinction was attributed by the British tourism magazine, under the 23rd edition of Wanderlust Reader Travel Awardsan initiative that recognizes the destinations most appreciated by travelers from around the world. The results were defined through the direct vote of readers of the publication.
More than 3 million votes
This year’s edition had over 3 million votes, submitted by about 168,000 readers. 22 different categories were analyzed, including countries, cities, islands and regions, allowing a broad global representation of travel preferences.
Wood on the most desired islands podium
Madeira Island won third place in the “Island most desired” category, noting among hundreds of other destinations. This recognition reinforces the image of the Portuguese island as a place of election for those looking for nature, tranquility and authentic experiences.

Portugal recorded more pride reasons in this edition of the awards. The country was considered the 10th “most desired country”, Lisbon reached 5th place among the “most desired cities” and the Azores obtained the 4th position in the category of “most desired regions”.
