Mike Waltz, Donald Trump National Security Counselor, should leave the US government in the coming days, two sources told CNN.

This will be the first major team reformulation since the president took over the White House in January.

Waltz’s position was “suspended” after being clear to him earlier this week that his term in front of the National Security Council had come to an end, according to a source.

Alex Wong, the national deputy counselor of national security, will also leave the White House, according to another source.

Special envoy Steve Witkoff, real estate developer and friend of President Donald Trump, is being considered to replace Waltz as national security counselor, although no decision has been made yet.

Witkoff led discussions with Russia and Iran while Trump seeks international agreements.
