São Paulo, SP (UOL/Folhapress) – Cardinal Luis Tagle is a favorite to become the successor of Pope Francis.
Who is Cardinal Luis Tagle?
67 -year -old Filipino has more progressive ideals. Rather Archbishop of Manila, Luis Tagle was invited in 2019 by Pope Francis to live in Rome and occupy the position of pro-mayor of the Dicker for evangelization-which she does to this day.
It was called “Asian Francis”. Bergoglio raised Tagle to the position of Bishop-Cardeal in 2020, indicating that he could be a possible successor to the papacy. Like him, Tagle has extensive theological and historical training, and maintains similar positions on the future directions of the Catholic Church.
Defender of ecology and against “hard words” to faithful LGBTQIA+. Tagle also stands in favor of the communion of divorced, but believes this should be analyzed “case-to-Caso”.
Despite liberal ideals, it is against the right to abortion and contraception. Tagle called abortion “a form of murder” and argues that the church takes firm positions against laws that allow the practice.
How does the conclave work?
The conclave will start on May 7th. The date was decided during the fifth general congregation, a closed -door meeting among the cardinals -the first since Pope Francis’ funeral.
There is no definite period for the conclave. The previous two, held in 2005 and 2013, lasted only two days. In the longest conclave of recent history in 1922, the final decision took 5 days.
