China sees potential fentanil offer as a way to start trade negotiations

China is considering ways to deal with the complaints of the government of US President Donald Trump about the role of Beijing in Fentanil trade, according to people familiar with the matter. According to the sources, the Chinese evaluate an offer on the Fentanil to the Republican team, potentially offering a way out of hostilities and allowing the start of commercial negotiations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “Czar of Security”, Wang Xiaohong, should lead efforts and has in recent days has questioned what Trump’s team wants China to do regarding the chemical ingredients used in fentanyl manufacturing. The sources mention that the discussions “remain fluid” and that Beijing wants to see a certain “slowdown” in the posture of the president in his commercial offensive against Asian power.

On Friday, the China Ministry of Commerce said it was evaluating to start negotiations with the US to interrupt a trade war.
