GNR investigates illegal dog export network and constitutes 12 defendants

Nine suspects and three legal persons were constituted argued for crimes related to the export of dogs abroad in the districts of Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Bragança, Guarda, Santarém, Lisbon and Setúbal, GNR said Friday.

In a statement, the Republican National Guard (GNR) said that following an investigation that has been held for two years, 18 searches, three households and 15 in veterinary clinics were carried out in these districts.

In the context of the operation, nine suspects were argued aged between 30 and 60 years, as well as three legal persons, and was seized physical and digital documentation related to crimes, 5,111,20 euros in cash and various computer equipment.

At issue are several crimes related to the process of exporting animals from company to abroad, falsification of documents and computing falsehood.

“It was possible that the suspects were dedicated to the collection, treatment and export of animals from the abroad,” is referred to in the note.

The recalls that the crime of animal abuse of company is punished criminally with prison sentence up to six months to two years.
