Prime Minister Luís Montenegro
Two months after taking office, Montenegro was at the inauguration of a hotel in a group that belongs Domingos Correia, a businessman who was a client of the Prime Minister’s family business.
Luís Montenegro participated, in June 2024, at the inauguration of The Lynx Santa Clara Historic Hotel, in Vila do Conde, a hotel unit belonging to the Arliz group. The group is controlled by Domingos Correia, a businessman who also has the company Beetteel – spinumviva client, Montenegro family company.
According to, the inauguration took place Less than two months after Montenegro took office as head of government. The connection between Domingos Correia and the Prime Minister’s family business came to public this week, with the update of Montenegro’s record of interests with the entity for transparency. In this record, the Prime Minister recognizes that Beetteel was one of Spinumviva’s customers.
Asked about the case, Montenegro said on Thursday that the services provided by his family company were “very limited”evaluating them in “two or three thousand euros”. The prime minister also denied any interference in contracts entered into between Spinumviva and the state clients, after learning that customers profited 90 million euros in this way.
João Paulo Batalha, vice president of the civic front and transparency specialist, describes Montenegro’s presence at the hotel opening as a “undeniable conflict of interest“.” The prime minister, with his presence at the inauguration of the hotel, is promoting a business partner, “he says.
Domingos Correia is the brother of Custódio Correia, a businessman who was detained for 21 days in early 2024 in the context of a Investigation on suspicious public contracts in the wood. Both have links to former mayor of Funchal Pedro Calado, also detained in this process. In 2022, during the internal PSD elections, Calado represented Montenegro in Madeira.
Contacted by Correio da Manhã, Domingos Correia answered a call, but did not provide clarification on his relationship with the Prime Minister.
