In the United States, lawyers, teachers and politicians are among the thousands of people who protested on Thursday against immigration policies, the persecution of lawyers and judges under the government of US President Donald Trump.
Jennifer Vasquez Sura, whose husband, Kilmar Abrago Garcia, a legal resident in the US, was sent by a hairs, spoke in a Washington rally – one of the acts organized across the country by lawyers and a coalition of over 200 unions and advocates of immigrant rights.
“He was illegally arrested, kidnapped and missing by the Trump administration, although they admitted it was a mistake,” said Vasquez Sura, adding that her husband has already faced “50 days of suffering.”
“For everyone who is watching, keep fighting,” he said. The crowd responded with the choir: “Bring Kilmar back home.”
The organizers accuse the Trump government to prioritize billionaires profits and ask for investments in working families, with full funding in public health, housing and public schools.
“It’s a clear contrast between the Trump government’s priorities and what ordinary people want and need,” said Lisa Gilbert, a co -president of Public Citizen, a consumer rights organization and one of the manifestation coorganizers in Washington.
The organizers expected hundreds of thousands of protesters across the country, expecting to hold the largest May 1 protests, known as May Day in the US, in the country’s history.
Previous protests have gathered thousands of participants since Trump’s return to power.
