The succulent giants in the house are not only spectacular to see, but can completely transform the energy of an environment. Few know that there is a simple make -up to make them grow luxuriant and healthy even internal.
Those who love to furnish with imposing plants will certainly have noticed how fatty varieties know how to give character to the spaces. Bright colors, sculptural shapes, scenographic presence: all this without requesting great care. But is it really that simple? There is an often neglected detail that makes the difference.
Before finding out what is the “secret”, better to clarify why these plants are carving out a role as protagonists in the interior design. And maybe observing the succulent one on the shelf more carefully which, for months, seems to no longer grow. Sometimes we forget that even the most resistant plants have specific needs, and that a small mistake can block growth for weeks. A wrong position, an unsuitable soil, or even a too small vase can slow down everything. That’s why stopping to reflect on these details makes the difference between a decorative plant and a real protagonist of the living room.
Why choose giants succulents for the interiors
It is not just a trend. The large succulent plants they carry numerous advantages with them. In addition to their ability to survive with little water, they are resistant to internal climate change, such as temperature changes or dry air. Some of the most loved ones? THE’Aloe vera giantl’Agave americanathe Crassula oval In a maxi version and the timeless Euphorbia hugewhich can reach surprising heights.
In addition to aesthetic, there is also a practical factor. Large plants occupy more visual space and make it superfluous to add too many decorative elements. In other words, they simplify the furniture and make it more elegant. But be careful: great does not mean exempt from problems. Often it is believed that it is enough to water little and place them near a window. This is not always the case.
The secret that nobody says: the light is not enough
The crucial point, what really makes the difference, is the type of substrate used. Yet very little is talked about. The succulent giants do not easily adapt to universal soil: they need a draining, light and mineral mix, which prevents stagnation from compromising the roots.
It is not enough to arrange the plant in a luminous angle to make it thrive. The basis from which everything is underground, invisible to the eyes but fundamental. A healthy root allows the plant to better absorb water and nutrients, avoiding diseases and rot. That’s why the choice of the substrate and the container is not a recent detail.
Here’s what can be done concretely:
- Choose a deep vase with drainage holes;
- Create a homemade mix with Vulcanic Lapillo, Large sand and cacture;
- Avoid sauces full of water, because stagnation is the number one enemy;
- Place the plants in filtered lightavoiding direct exposure for hours.
Another important precaution concerns the repotting. Every two years, it would be useful to change the container to encourage radical growth, thus avoiding that the plant remains “suffocated”.
Those who tried to follow these precautions noticed an abysmal difference: more fleshy leaves, faster growth, more intense colors. It takes little, but you have to know.
Common and tips to remember with the succulent giants
A frequent mistake? Treat succulents giants like normal apartment plants. In reality they have a particular physiology, which requires a different approach.
Among the most common oversights there are watering too often, when it is better to wait for the ground to be completely dry. Or keep plants in too humid environments, such as the bathroom, erroneously thinking that it serves humidity. And then there are those who ignore the seasons: in winter many enter into vegetative rest and should not be forced with fertilizers or irrigation.
A useful gem? During the summer, if there is a balcony or a terrace, you can move the plant outdoors, gradually getting used to direct light. This “positive shock” often accelerates growth and improves resistance.
The beauty of the succulents is that, with the right precautions, they become autonomous. The more you are concerned about not overdoing, the more they adapt and amaze.
Who would have said that an almost immobile plant could give so many satisfactions?
Curious to see that plant that seemed firm for months grow? Just change the earth, move it a little and … wait: nature makes the rest.
