US President Donald Trump wants to introduce celebrations of the end of both world wars in the US. On his platform Truth Social on Friday also announced that 8th May will be from now on the day of the World War II victory and 11 November the day of the First World War victory. TASR informs about this, referring to DPA.
“Many of our allies and friends celebrate 8 May as victory, but we have contributed much more to the victory in World War II than any other country,” wrote Trump.
“We won both wars, no one was far as strong, brave or militarily brilliant as we are. But we never celebrate anything – it’s because we no longer have leaders who know it! We will start celebrating our victories again!” He added the White House boss.
The celebrations of both anniversaries would not be immediately known. Trump has not yet signed a decree to implement his decision. So far he was 8. May in the USA known as VICRY (Victory in Europe Day) and 11 November as Veterans Day (War Veterans Day).
The US played a decisive role in the defeat of Hitler’s Germany after the landing of the Allies in Normandy in 1944. However, for the United States, which entered the war only after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the Second World War ended only the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945.
Trump has previously taken steps to review the history of the US. At the end of March, he signed a decree entitled “Restoration of Truth and Reason in American History”. In it he commissioned his vice president JD Vance to spread the views of the new government, especially in museums.
