In the European Union, percentage is 5.8%; Data were released by Eurostat this Friday (2.mai)
The unemployment rate in the euro area reached a level of 6.2% in March, according to the report released by Eurostat (European Union Statistics Office) on Friday (2.MAI.2025). Here’s (PDF – 115 kb).
The euro zone encompasses countries that adopted the euro as an official currency – are 20 of the 27 of the European Union. Considering the entire block, the eviction was 5.8%, a percentage that has been stabilized since October 2024.
It is estimated that 10.8 million people are unemployed in the eurozone. In the European Union, there are 12.9 million.
Spain has the highest unemployment rate in the European Union, with 10.9% of the population without occupation. It also leads in absolute numbers, with about 2.7 million unemployed people.
Percentage, Finland appears next, with 9.1% -which, in absolute numbers, represents 259,000 people. Then Greece appears with 9%, which translates into 425 thousand people.
Among the countries with the lowest percentage of unemployment are Czech Republic (2.6%), Poland (2.7%) and Malta (2.8%).
The survey points out that the percentage of unemployment among women is greater than among men in Europe. In the eurozone, 6.4% of women were unoccupied, compared to 6.1% of men. Among the 27 countries in the European bloc, the percentage is 6% for women and 5.7% for men.
Unemployment among young people
Unemployment among young people fell in Europe. According to Eurostat, in the eurozone, 2.265 million people up to 25 years old were unoccupied, which means a percentage of 14.2% -a 0.1 percentage point compared to February.
In the European Union, there were 2.822 million young people unemployed in March, equivalent to 14.5%. The percentage is also lower at 0.1 percentage point compared to February.
