Market expectation was to open 138,000 new jobs in April

The US created 177,000 job openings outside the agricultural sector in April. The result was above the expectation of financial market agents, who expected the opening of 138,000 posts.

The data were released on Friday (2.MAI.2025) by (Bureau of Labor Statistics). This is the report (PDF – 423 KB).

The result of 177,000 shows one compared to 228,000 jobs created in March. The number for the 3rd month of the year, however, was revised from 228 thousand to 185 thousand. Thus, the net review of the last 2 months results in the loss of 58,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate remained 4.2%. The number of unemployed closed April at 7.2 million. It was expected that this rate would follow this level.

The rate of workforce participation and the employment-population metric were 62.6% and 60%, respectively.

Regarding income, average gains per hour of US workers were $ 36, up 0.2% in the monthly comparison and 3.8% over the same month of 2024.
