The winged flower can be a real decoration of our home. It has elegant, dark green leaves, as well as delicate white flowers. It is true that it is a plant with low requirements, but sometimes it is attacked by pests and is quickly atminted by them. We suggest how to recognize the first symptoms of the presence of these unwanted guests and how to prevent them.
The wingworm is a resistant and durable plant. It happens, however, that he cannot defend himself against pests. So let’s know which of them most often attack this plant and what indicates their presence. Here are pests that contribute to the poor condition of the winged flower:
- Wool – These are pests that resemble cotton wool balls. They are usually found in the recesses of the plant near the base of the leaves and along the stems. We recognize their presence after white raids and weakening of the winged flower. Then it is worth applying agents based on paraffin oil, thanks to which we will get rid of pests.
- Spider mites – They are tiny arachnids, whose presence is manifested by light yellow spots on the leaves and a spider, which appears on the bottom of the leaf blade. As a result of their existence, the leaves begin to die. To prevent their presence, it is worth sprinkling the leaves regularly and ensuring adequate air humidity, because spider mites do not like moisture.
- Discs – These are small, brown “discs” that are attached to the leaves or stems. These pests suck the plant juice, leading to their weakness, yellowing and falling leaves. They should be regularly removed mechanically, using a soft brush or stick. In addition, we can use specialized preparations in the form of spraying or sticks.
- Earthled – Their larvae feeds on the roots of the wingworm, leading to rotting the entire system. This is reflected in the general appearance of the plant. Suspecting the presence of these pests, you should change the way the plant is watered, allowing the top layer of the soil to dry well. Thanks to this, we will limit the development of larvae. Let’s also remember to install sticky traps on adult earthloves, i.e. small black bow ties.

Of course, it is easier to prevent pests than to get rid of them. For this purpose, we must ensure adequate conditions to the wingworm so that it is stronger and thus more resistant to their attacks. You should put it in the right place, in a medium sunny position, but away from heat sources, e.g. from radiators.
Additionally, it’s worth take care of regularly spraying leaves, systematic fertilization and plants. However, we should only supply water supply when the top layer of the substrate dries slightly.
In addition, we can from time to time Wipe the leaves of the wingworm with a damp cloth so that the dust does not accumulate on them, which promotes, among others development of spider mites. Let’s also remember about systematic control of our plant, because thanks to this we will notice the possible presence of pests and we will be able to fight them.
