The balcony with high sunlight is a considerable challenge, because most plants do not tolerate such a large amount of light. Fortunately, there is a specimen that blooms beautifully throughout the summer and even loves the strong sun. We suggest which plant to choose for the southern balcony, as well as how to care for it so that it blooms beautifully.
Having a sunny balcony, which is usually the one from the south, we must carefully choose plants, because here they have access to sunlight throughout the day. This also applies to balconies without roofing from the west, which are also often sunny, in particular in the spring and summer.
In this case, only plants should be grown there that will cope in full sun and warmth. One of such species is shiny sage. This specimen feels great in such conditions because it comes from South America. In natural conditions of sage is a perennial plant, However, due to the climate in Poland, here it is grown as an annual specimen.
Flowers of shiny sage can be a real decoration of the balcony. They are narrow and gathered in long ears of inflorescences, which are located on the tops of shoots. They are about 5 cm and surround them with a colorful, half -fused cup. We can find them in various shades – among others, they come in red, white, cream, pink, purple or salmon. The flowering of the plant lasts from June to autumn frosts.
Shiny sage is worth permanently in May, when the risk of low temperatures will pass. More precisely, it’s best to do it after May 15. However, the seeds of this plant can be sown earlier, because at the end of February or March, placing them in pots or seedling.
When planting a shiny sage, we should remember to put it in the right position. This plant will best grow in sunny, because when we put it in the shade, it will not only bloom less, but also will become susceptible to diseases. In addition, let’s make sure that sage in a well -permeable and fertile soil with a slightly acidic reaction. Avoid placing the plant in a heavy and wetland.
