The minister was not investigated, but faced wear for, in the government’s assessment, that he had not adopted steps to stop the problem.

Lupi’s departure from the government has the potential to shake the alliance between the two parties and lead the PDT to a position of independence in Congress. Nationally, the history of clashes between PT and PDT have come since the end of, when the two parties vied for hegemony in the field of the left.

After redemocratization, the PT emerged in the 1989 presidential election, when Lula surprised and went to the second round against a narrow bank, leaving third place the pedestrian leader.

At the time, Brizola was one of the main leaders on the left and symbol of the fight against the dictatorship. In 1982, after returning from exile, he was elected governor Rio de Janeiro.

Since then, PT and PDT have had a relationship of comings and goings. They were together in the 1998 election on a plate formed by Lula candidate for president and Brizola to deputy, defeated by the then president (PSDB).

They hold opposite paths in the 2002 and 2006 elections, both with Lula’s victory, and returned to approach in 2010 and 2014, in the election and reelection of Dilma Rousseff (PT).

Lupi was Minister of Labor and also resigned and left the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government in 2011 after a sequence of complaints that put his relations with NGOs. At the time, which the then minister was for about six years ghost employee of the House of Representatives.

In the 2018 and 2022 presidential elections, the PDT bet on the candidacy of, defeating in the first round on both occasions.

Even in opposition to the government (), the PDT maintained distance from the PT, narrowing alliances with the PSB in the 2020 elections to create a new block on the left. At the same time, he approached right -wing parties candidates in capital as in Salvador.

In the 2022 presidential campaign, Ciro distributed the attacks between Lula and Bolsonaro equivalently, a position that irritated the petistas who made a useful voting movement in Lula in the first round.

Also in 2022, the two parties broke a historic alliance in Ceará, Ciro’s political cradle, after the PDT chooses the former mayor of Fortaleza Roberto Claudio to run for the government.

The petistas, who preferred that the reelection of the then governor Izolda Cela, did not accept the choice and launched Elmano de Freitas for the government. He won the election in the first round.

The movement resulted in the break between Ciro and his brother, Senator Cid Gomes, in a fight marked by accusations of e. Cid kept the alliance with the PT e. In 2024, he migrated to the PSB, taking 40 mayors with him.

Last year, petistas and pedestrians were overwhelmed in the dispute for the Fortaleza City Hall, with Rusgas who led part of the PDT to support the pocketist André Fernandes (PL) in the second round. Petista Evandro Leitão won the dispute.

The PDT became around the PT in the second round of the 2022 elections, when it announced support to Lula in the dispute against Bolsonaro. At the time, Cyrus said he would follow the party’s position, but did not join the full front that campaigned for the petista.

The alliance was sealed after Lula’s victory with Lupi’s nomination for the Ministry of Social Security. At the time, however, PDT members indicated dissatisfaction with the little political weight of the portfolio.
