US scientists will be able to study materials, but NASA will not financially support research
Even in trade war, the China National Space Administration) decided to send US researchers sample researchers considered rare and which were brought to Earth by 2020 by a Chinese space mission.
Researcher Timothy Glotch of Stony Brook University in New York was chosen by the Chinese government to receive the rocks. According to the Chinese newspaper, Glotch’s idea is to compare the samples with rocks collected by Apollo – realized missions in the 60s and 70s.
Although authorized to receive rocks, Glotch will not have financial support from the US space agency. US law prevents NASA prevents direct cooperation with Chinese government entities.
The lunar rocks were collected by the Chinese spacecraft Chang’e-5. It is the 1st lunar material collected since 1976. In all, 1,731 grams of rock and volcanic soil of the moon were collected.
Chinese scientists have found that the hardened lava present in the samples is significantly younger than any material brought by the US and Soviet Union missions. This suggests that moon volcanoes remained active much longer than previously thought.
Chinese criticize the USA
From NASA’s negative to support research, the Chinese state newspaper has published an article stating that, unlike China, the US is not concerned about the planet’s scientific advancement, but only itself.
According to the text, the US bets on a competitive view of the technological advance of humanity, while China has a philosophy of sharing its scientific discoveries with other countries.
“The essence here is clear: the US bets on encouraging the innovation of various sources, while maintaining certain competitors carefully removed. In contrast, China invests in systemic strategic mobilization, coupled with an increasingly outdoor stance.”said the newspaper.
