Bolivia’s court restarted on Friday (2) the order of capture that weighed against the former president for a case of alleged trafficking in people involving a minor, which had been annulled by a judge this week, the Ministry of Justice said. “Not only the order, but the case, the imputation, the jurisdiction is in force” where the case will be considered and the judge, said César Siles, holder of the portfolio, in statements to the official broadcaster Bolivia TV.
The minister cited the decision of a judge, who temporarily suspended the decision of magistrate Lilian Moreno, from Santa Cruz (east), who had left the accusations and the arrest warrant against Morales. “As a precautionary measure, the temporary suspension of the execution of all determined determination is ordered,” as a pending complaint is still necessary, indicates the judicial resolution. “It is really an aberrant decision that dictated the judge […]But fortunately, the rule of law has been restored, ”said Siles.
In turn, Morales referred to the resolution as “news spread by the government” who responds to “his despair by being defeated politically and legally.” The indigenous leader, who ruled Bolivia from 2006 to 2019, accuses Luis Arce’s government to orchestrate a court chase against him to withdraw him from the 17 August elections, in which he seeks a fourth term.
Morales announced that on May 16 he would march in La Paz to register his candidacy. “[O governo] wants to confuse and hide the economic disaster that experience. To the Bolivian people, I assure it: My freedom is guaranteed, ”he added. But his main obstacle is a decision of the Constitutional Court of 2023 that states that no one can rule the country for more than two periods.
Pendant case
According to the prosecution, Morales kept a relationship with a 15 -year -old teenager, with whom he had a daughter a year later. The former Mandanician was investigated in 2019 for this same case, framed in the crime of rape, which involves carnal conjunction under the age of 14 to 18 years. Last year, the prosecution resumed work and indicted Morales for alleged trafficking in people.
The prosecution argues that Morales would have offered parents benefits in exchange for his daughter, who was part of the “youth guard” of the then-governor’s then party.
