The Minister of Mines and Energy, announced plans to accelerate the reform of the Brazilian electricity sector. This initiative aims to open the free energy market, increase the benefits for low -income consumers and relocate the costs of the sector. The renovation project must be finalized within 15 days and will be sent to Congress in the form of a provisional measure. Among the main proposals of the reform, we highlight the total opening of the Free Energy Market, expected to occur in 2028. In addition, the initiative includes the exemption of light accounts to 60 million Brazilians, which will be made possible through the social tariff of electricity. These changes aim to provide financial relief to the lowest income families.

Another important measure is the rebalancing of the Energy Development Account (CDE), which seeks to ensure the financial sustainability of the sector. The reform also proposes the implementation of more rigorous criteria for large consumers who choose energy self -production, setting a minimum limit of 30 megawatts (MW) for hiring. Marcos Pinto, Secretary of Economic Reforms of the Ministry of Finance, emphasizes that this reform represents a significant opportunity to review the social tariff and reduce the costs of the energy bill. The subsidies review is one of the central points to reach a fairer and more accessible fare for the population.
