Last December, Pope Francis provided his last interview in front of the camera, which is now part of a new film about the non -profit educational organization Scholas Occurrentes, in December.

This was founded by the late Argentine Pope in 2013 in order to support the “culture of meetings” of young people through film art. TASR reports this according to the Ansa news agency.

The interview of 82 -year -old Scorsese with the first Jesuit Pope in history was shot in the Vatican and later included it in the new documentary film Aldeas – a new story.

The film will present young people from Indonesia, Gambie and Italy, who participate in the program and create short films. According to production, the work is “rooted in the Pope’s faith in the sacred nature of creativity”.

Excerpts from the interview between Francis and Scorses, which is connected by Italian origin, will be part of the story of the film. The term of its premiere is not yet set. “It was important for Francis that people from all over the world exchange ideas with respect and at the same time maintain their cultural identity, and the film is the best medium for this purpose,” said Scorsese.

The director devoted himself to religious themes

Before his death, the Pope described Aldeas as “a poetic project because it goes to the roots of what is human life”. Scorsese, who is a Catholic and is very close to the Church, was among the first to express their condolences to the Pope’s death on 21 April.

“It is a huge loss for the world. I was lucky to know him and I would miss his cordiality and affection,” said the director, according to which the Pope left behind “unquestionable light”.

The Oscar -winning director is behind several Catholic films as the last temptation of Christ (1988), which caused protests of religious groups, or silence (2016) about the Jesuits, “hidden Christians” in Japan 17th century.

František himself did not avoid the film world. Did he appear in the series Stories of One Generation with Pope Francis (2021), in the documentary film Leonard DiCapria about climate change is the end with us? (2016) and in the documentary film Wim Wenders Pope Francis: The man who holds the word (2018).
