Brazilians say they have reduced alcohol consumption, shows research

According to Datafolha, 53% of consumers reduced alcohol intake; Men (58%) drink more than women (42%)

Datafolha survey conducted from April 8 to 11 shows that 51% of Brazilians say they consume alcohol, while 49% say they do not drink. The survey listened to 1,912 people 18 years or older in 113 municipalities in all regions of the country. The margin of error is 2 percentage points.

Among those who consume alcohol, 53% claim to have reduced ingestion in the last year. 12% say they have increased and 35% report stability.

The survey also measured consumption the week before the research: the average was 4.5 doses – a dose equals a glass, can, cup or drink.

Still among those who drank the week before the survey:

  • 36% did not ingest any dose;
  • 19% took up to two doses;
  • 16%, from 3 to 5;
  • 13%, from 6 to 10;
  • 10% consumed 11 or more doses;
  • 5% did not respond.

As for the frequency:

  • 3% drink 5 to 7 days a week;
  • 3%, 3 to 4 times a week;
  • 20%, once or twice a week;
  • 10%every 15 days;
  • 13%, once a month or less.

Men drink more than women

Among men, 58% consume alcohol. Among women, 42%. The frequency is also higher among men: 10% of them drink 3 to 7 times a week, compared to 2% of women.
