Daily coffee consumption may be associated with greater life expectancy, as long as it is limited to the early hours of the day, according to cardiologist Aurelio Rojas.
“Having coffee at this time may be shortened with your life?” Asks Rojas in his Instagram account, citing one from January from European Heart Magazine that associates morning consumption with a 31% reduction in the risk of death due to heart problems and 17% at the risk of premature death.
The expert points out that the benefits of coffee to cardiovascular health disappear if consumed in the afternoon or evening and said he was “surprised” to see that some people on social networks advise their intake in the afternoon.
The reasons
Rojas explains that drinking coffee outside recommended time changes the circadian rhythms and unbalances melatonin and cortisol levels, two essential hormones for rest and waking.
This deregulation can increase low -grade inflammation, raise blood pressure and, consequently, increase cardiovascular risk.
“It seems that people who drink coffee only in the morning have greater life expectancy and less likely to suffer a heart attack,” he says, reiterating that taking it in the afternoon can increase stress, reducing rest.
Other benefits
The cardiologist also highlights other positive effects of coffee in health, such as the Reduction of diabetes risk, improvement in weight loss and antioxidant action.
Surprisingly, the expert clarifies that those Benefits are also found in the decaf coffeerecommended for people with hypertension.
Finally, Rojas warns that one should always opt for natural toast coffee and never torfe or mixed, as they “are made with grains to which sugar is added and, when roasted, generate potentially toxic compounds.”
