The Turkish president, inaugurating the building complex, housing the so -called “Presidential Palace”, the “House” and a campus of the pseudo -state, said that “today, we put another stamp on these territories, today we offer another great work”.
Tayyip Erdogan, inaugurating the “presidential” campus in occupied Nicosia, described it as a “symbol of the determination of the Turkish Cypriot people” and a source of national pride.
In his speech, he expressed his joy for his presence in the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (pseudo -state), welcoming those present as “precious brothers and sisters” who participated in this “historic moment”. “Today,” he said, “we are not just inaugurating a project, but we declare our will, our determination and our love for freedom.”
The campus in the occupied territories, which started in 2022, extends to 640,000 sq.m. And it will host the so -called “Presidential Palace”, the “House”, the “Supreme Court”, the “National Garden” and the “National Mosque”.
In the first stage, the “Presidential Palace” and the “Parliament” were inaugurated, while the rest of the buildings will be launched later. Erdogan emphasized that the project reinforces the international reputation of the pseudo -state – despite being recognized by any country – and is a proof of commitment to progress and independence.
Referring to the challenges, Erdogan said that “those who are trying to disrupt our brotherhood (Turkish and Turkish Cypriots) or sow divisions will not succeed.” He expressed his conviction that the new building complex would host decisions that would promote the future of Turkish Cypriots, thanking the Turkish company Tokİ for its contribution.
In closing, Erdogan wished the work to be blessed and prosperous, greeting those present with “heartfelt emotions” and expressing the hope of meeting them again.
Speaking to the inauguration, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said that “our presence in these territories is permanent” and thanked Erdogan for offering the pseudo -state.
Meanwhile, there were four arrests of protesters protesting Erdogan’s visit and Turkey’s intervention in the Turkish Cypriots’ secularism due to the “legislation” that allows the headscarfs to the schoolchildren.
A protest event was also held by Greek Cypriots on the barricade of Agios Dometios. The protesters delivered a protest resolution to a spokesman for the UN peacekeeping force.
