Liverpool will be the protagonist of a 20 -year tradition at the Premier League. After confirming the 2024/25 season title, the Reds visit Chelsea in London on Sunday (4) for the 35th round of the competition. The ball rolls at 12:30 pm (Brasília) at Stamford Bridge stadium, which will be the scene of the so -called Real Guard.
The name is given to the tribute ceremony to the team that became early English champion that season and always happens in the games following the confirmation of the title.
Players of the winning team enter the field’s applause, who stands on two rows on the edge of the lawn to receive the champions.
The act is not mandatory, but became a tradition in the elite of England in 2003. That year, champion Manchester United visited Everton minutes after the confirmation of the title and was received on the lawn with applause of the toffees.
Interestingly, all games after winning the title can have the “guard of honor” for the champion. Leicester, champion in 2015/16, was honored in the final two games of the season, while Liverpool himself, champion in 2019/20, received the “Honor Guard” in seven games.
The 2024/25 season marks the second Reds title in “Era Premier League”, which began in 1992. Another curiosity is that Chelsea will be the first team to offer the tribute on both occasions.
In this scenario, it should receive the “guard of honor” in the remaining four games against Chelsea (away from home); Arsenal (at home); Brighton (away from home); and Crystal Palace (at home). This last commitment will also mark the delivery of the Cup to Reds.
